Sequel-itis Strikes the Mouse House Yet Again

Yeesh. After checking up on the latest DVD releases of early Summer 2012 (Chronicle, Comic-Con: Episode IV, and Project X being some of the films next month that will catch audience's interests), Disney seems to fulfill the time spent with re-releasing classic films, this time in the Blu-Ray format, with their theatrical bomb John Carter with two sequels that are unneeded. They're just money grabs for the mothers to purchase for their children if they've seen trailers for both and won't be quiet about wanting the films until they get them.

First up is the latest installment of the Beverly Hills Chihuahua franchise: Beverly Hills Chihuahua 3: Viva La Fiesta! No one thought that the first film, released in 2008 would have led it to become the newest series of dog films next to the hope-to-be-retired Air Buddies series. Within the trailers, there's nothing appealing about the first film that would have led to more adventures of Papi (voiced by George Lopez), the main star of the film, and his now increased family as of Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2. The plot for this film is similar to 101 Dalmatians 2: Patch's London Adventure about one of Papi's pups not feeling like she'll amount to anything in life. There have been many TV shows and films with characters that felt the same way but with various results leading them to appreciate how much of a difference they can make to someone else along with them feeling good about themselves which is why nothing new will be brought to the table in the film. Sure, there will be new characters that won't be reproduced as cute, cuddly plushies for the little one to sleep with during their bedtimes along with other actresses and actors that could be have skipped out on being a part of the film than having it be a part of their resume. Looking on the idmb.com page of the film, the character 'Rosa' who's the central focus of the film is absent. Wonder who Disney has chosen to voice her or if the character's name was changed at the last minute. With Disney Channel alumni Emily Osment and Madison Pettis in the cast, there's a chance that one of the two could be our lead despite their roles being 'Pep' and 'Lala'. The dogs are out again on September 18th, 2012 (date subject to change).

Tired of the Tinker Bell series and wishing that Disney focuses on bringing back The Boy Who Won't Grow Up in a new film based on the Peter and the Stargazers (first book now a theatrical production in New York City) book series? There's no stopping the fairies with, for the 1st time ever in Disney history, the latest in the series being released in Blu-Ray 3D, Secret of the Wings. Why Tink's name is absent with this release? It's a no-brainer just looking at the two covers created for the film. Coming soon to stores, iTunes, and online retailers everywhere on October 23rd, 2012, the plot details are unknown at this point in time, but special features have been announced including the full Pixie Hollow Games short and Zendaya's (from Disney Channel's Shake It Up) "Dig Down Deeper" music video. With not much to say about the mischievous fairy's newest adventure, it's time to sign off for now.

The 'Journey' to 'Being' Red Hot is Now on DVD/Blu-Ray

One film that caught my interest is FINALLY on DVD/Blu-Ray! The film had a short run over at The Charles Theater but now it can be mine. ALL MINE!!

If you're a Baltimore native, you should know about a clever man by the name of Kevin Clash. He's been the voice behind everyone's show stealer of Sesame Street for years. Now, in his first documentary, experience the journey of this master puppeteer and voice actor for the first time if you haven't gotten the chance to see it while it was playing in your town. 'Being Elmo' Trailer #1

In other news, another fan favorite arrives to stores on May 22nd, 2012. From Studio Ghibli comes the film that might have collected small earnings in the box office but its normal for the Borrowers.

London Tipton says, "Yay Me! I'm Having a Baby!"

This was a complete surprise to me and anyone else who have been fans of these stars especially the ex-Tipton Hotel socialite. Since her graduation aboard the now non-existing S.S. Tipton, London Tipton's popping out some babies. So far, she's having her first one. The baby's father in question is a washed up singer who haven't made a good song in years. History about these two is slim besides dating Sonny Monroe and Joe Jonas who ended up together who later broke up only for them to work on separate solo projects. Just goes to show that everyone's really close within the Disney family. The only question is who will she name her first child. If it's a girl, the name's truly obvious. If it's a boy, I recommend Zack or Cody. Good thing that the baby will be born within royalty to avoid having a poor girl name. Can't think of any except Maddie. I wonder why?

'Cars 2' Movie Review

 

Cars 2 might be the number one film of the weekend, but Paramount has next weekend in the bag. The reason is obvious. Still, what's a better way to pave the way for the final epic battle between the Autobots and Decepticons than getting more in depth about a world of talking cars who are not only interested in racing, but are also into saving the world from criminal masterminds. In this film, the villain, from the beginning of the film, is Prof. Z (voiced by Thomas Kretschmann) who, along with his cronies, wanting to sabotage the World Grand Prix sponsored by a new source of clean fuel created by Sir Miles Axelrod (voiced by Eddie Izzard) who also set out the race through Japan, Italy, and London. Lightning McQueen's (voiced by Owen Wilson) a competitor after Mater (voiced by Larry the Cable Guy) makes a phone call on a talk show declaring that his best buddy was faster than his future rival Francisco Bernoulli (voiced by John Turturro). Once in Japan, Mater's mistaken as an American secret agent thanks to Finn and his partner Holley Shiftwell (voiced by Emily Mortimer) setting off on more chases, hi-jinks, and adventure one tow truck never would have expected in his life.

Notice how in the poster, McQueen's shown off to be the main character where this is Mater's film. Sure, select people in the audience won't be laughing at his schtick of being funny, but it won't matter to the kids.

Disney in 2011: Mid-Year Review and the Future

Hey all! Many of you, the readers, have known that you don't need to know my opinion about certain films before you check them out on DVD and in theaters for yourself. There are other reviewers out there that you can depend on that can give you plots of the films, their opinions, and space for you to make your own decision about whether or not a film's good or not no matter what the critics say. This plays into the lives of every man and woman and is a characteristic that won't go away anytime soon.

What I would wish is for Disney to get its act together. This year hasn't been very good for them with Prom failing to hit home with the critics though managing to make back its budget according to BoxOfficeMojo. Winnie the Pooh has to duke it out with the students at Hogwarts come July 15th as the fans of popular book series about our famous young wizard Harry Potter bids farewell to his arch nemesis and welcomes a new day ahead where he's free from his harsh past and plush toys whose obsessions involve tasting honey and spending almost and hour and a half looking for a fellow friend's tail. Cars 2, recently, is taking a beating on Rotten Tomatoes proving that no matter how many toys a company can mass produce from a popular animation company, it doesn't make the film any good than it should have been. Need I say more about Mars Needs Moms? Another blast from the past, The Muppets, might also face a beating with critics and fans alike. The final trailer's jokes fall flatter than Robert Rodriguez's silly attempt for people to get involved with Smell-o-vision again. Rodriguez, it didn't work in 2003 without your involvement. It's not going to work this year or in any decade with your involvement. Spy Kids 4D my ass.

As for Touchstone Pictures (forgot that it was owned by the folks who own Disney) and Dreamworks' collaborations, I Am Number Four didn't have people wanting for a sequel. Percy Jackson getting a sequel, on the other hand, puzzles me. Real Steel could prove that their hard work has paid off making the game of Rock 'Em, Sock 'Em Robots into a fun, hard-hitting flick that won't need the sentimental moments between father and son. Just watching the last trailer made me wish that the kid had no involvement with Hugh Jackman's character trying to get back into the sport that made him popular to the people before the machines took over. It could also make audiences wish that, for those who remember it, the show Medabots could be adapted for the big screen. That would have been awesome! If this film fails, we have hope.

The Mouse House has a lot of cleaning up to do. Aside from dealing with more Tinker Bell and AirBuddies films coming to your local Wal-Mart and Redboxes, I'm looking forward to 2012 even it means that it'll be the last year spent on Earth. If we live to see past 2012 and jump into 2013, maybe Disney will stop trying to throw their ripe young actors from Disney Channel into their dubs of Studio Ghibli films. The British aren't playing this game. Why can't we? The answer's simple: money. Tell that to the people who brought us Doogal. Maybe people will realize that Pair of Kings has been a sham all along. Making audiences believe that Mitchel Musso and Doc Shaw as twin brothers might have worked, but the fetish for twins will be over soon. That also goes for finding the next Disney Tween Idol. After the mishaps with Lohan, Spears, and Lovato, families will have to be careful with whom they'll let groom their kids to become singing, acting, and dancing sensations. Perhaps Ark Music Factory will be their best bet. It received a lot of publicity due to their first and ONLY rising star. Disney XD might be in shambles leading to the resurrection of a new channel that will focus on bringing back fresher material that won't be directed to and stereotype JUST one audience. Mickey Mouse and the gang will become relevant again as their first feature length film in years becoming the only 2D animated film to win for Best Animated Feature. There's so much that we can wish and expect will happen with Disney as the years go by. Most of our fantasies will never become reality unless we work together to make Disney not a joke or sweat shop. Only time will tell.

I didn't know about this story until recently. While the story goes back to February back when Ms. Lovato was finishing up in rehab/preparing videos for the fans to thank them for their support, reading about her and actor Wilmer Valderrama really made me think about my friend who was mentioned in an earlier post.

Remember the one about Jason Biggs and his phobia of his wife pole dancing? The friend mentioned in the article is also dating a guy who I believed, when first told about the relationship, was too old for her. I understand if people of different ages understand other friends or family members on an intellectual level, but still. You know that guys like me are losing out on girls like my friend and Demi because they go for the ones who have been through life longer than they have and can provide the better advice. Also, newsflash! Remember the last girl Wilmer dated? She was another Disney teen princess who has been in the news recently that began some time ago when they broke up? As long as Demi doesn't follow her path to slight destruction or turn Taylor Swift on us and write a cheesy song about the break-up, which, in my opinion, won't happen since I also want her to be happy, it's all good.

I just think that people need to date those of their own age range. There are people my age who are more mature and have their entire lives planned from now until they hit the grave. Most of them have full-time jobs, homes and cars paid off from their own paychecks, and were either self-taught or taught by other people about how to handle the difficulties life has thrown at them thus far.

Me? I'll be thankful if I'm even successful with this blog or any of my future endeavors. I wish to have everything that I stated above along with a new level of maturity where I'm not worried about not having a romantic relationship, working and not having to deal with school and be seen as a full adult besides my age. It takes character and displays of said character to prove to others that you're ready to kick the world in the balls and say that it won't stop you from being more than who you are at this moment in time.

This really took a whole lot of me. Look forward to the Paul movie review probably later in the week or whenever I feel like posting it.

Nate Dogg Dead at 41.

Although I haven't heard a lot of his music since discovering rap in 1998 after years of nothing but gospel music and Disney tunes, rapper Nate Dogg, sadly is no longer with us. He passed away in the day time of March 15th with no cause of death being given at this time.

From what I've read, he suffered a stroke back in 2008 and was recovering. However, I believe complications from said stroke got the best of him thus leading the Rap Industry to mourn for the loss.

Disney Won't Need 'Yellow Submarine'

Damn! Even MORE news I've been missing out on. I wish I was given some sources who would let me know about all of these stories so I won't be out of the loop.

For those wondering about how Robert Zemeckis was going to handle the animated remake of The Beatles' Yellow Submarine, worry no more. The path to making the film came to a complete stop after Mars Needs Moms took in a disappointing $6.9 million in its opening weekend (Go Rango!) I've never seen the original film and probably wouldn't have taken the risk of seeing the new version but hey, I thought I would let you guys know in case you haven't read anything about this already.

Who's Going to Prom? Not Me.

1. Couple 1: Clichéd Bad Boy/Good Girl ripping off the one from 10 Things I Hate About You.
2. Couple 2: Also ripped off 10 Things I Hate About You, the slightly less attractive beta couple to appeal to the less socially accomplished in the audience.
3. Couple 3: They are black, and therefore COMPLETELY DIFFERENT from the other two couples, despite the fact that they seem to have no plot involvement at all.
4. The Last Guy: He obviously will end the movie alone, because WHO EVER HEARD OF A NERD WITH A LIFE?

My point exactly.

After viewing the latest trailer from the U.K. to the biggest tween heartthrob movie of the year from the good folks at Disney, along with the above comment from user mylightside, on YouTube describing the film in a nutshell, I have one thing to say to those people associated with this film: Why?

Why do we even need this flick even after we’ve been through prom in High School Musical 3? As safe as that movie was back in 2008, this film seems to try its best to border between a PG and PG-13 rating. Come on guys. We know that outside of the Pirates films, Disney will NEVER shoot for a PG-13 except when the film’s being released under their other name: Touchstone Pictures.

After dealing with lawn gnomes, after three weeks, topping the box office, Disney seems to be taking one step back in mediocrity. Even if Gnomeo and Juliet became a hit among kids and families, Prom seems to be another film that I bet even John Lasseter wishes it never saw the light of day. Heck, Cars 2 is another Disney film of the year that should have been nothing more than possible animated shorts to be attached to future Pixar films. Some people were split with the first one but what does the Mouse house care about? Money.   

What does this company hope for Prom: immediate success that could lead into a possible Disney Channel Original Series where drama and comedy will mix again hoping that it won’t lead the show to die a slow death like that of Jonas and its second season Jonas L.A.

I think 2011 will continue to be Disney’s weakest year with the possibility that the Phineas and Ferb film will make me think again about the company’s success on TV. As a whole, it seems that I’ll have to hold out for hope that 2012 will be better. 

As for the last guy who’s desperately looking for a date in this film (please let it flop),

Demi's Back to Work

A couple of months ago,  I wrote an opinion piece expressing my feelings about wanting actress/singer Demi Lovato to get better after dealing with everything from a break-up to potential bullying including dealing with it from the past. Now, she's back and better than ever even though I feel as if she's been blowing up (I'm not going to say where). Take a look at the video for yourself. I just wish Sonny with a Chance wasn't given a third season though. I think Demi would be better off and just focus on her music career. Other than that, she should take a long siesta.
